Privacy policy

In short

Follometry analyzes your Instagram export only on your device. The app sends no app data to me or to anyone else. There is no user account, no Instagram login, no tracking and no advertising. Apple or Google handle the purchase.

Further details are in the legal notice. I have not appointed a data protection officer because there is no legal obligation to do so.

The Follometry app

This part applies to the Follometry app for iPhone (iOS) and Android.

What the app processes

Follometry only processes files that you exported from Instagram yourself and loaded into the app: the ZIP file with your followers and following lists (for example followers_1.json and following.json). You pick the ZIP file with your device’s file picker. The app reads it on your device. It does not transmit the raw files to any server and does not store them permanently.

The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR: I process the data so that the app provides the function you call up.

What the app stores

On your device, in an embedded database (Hive), the app stores:

  • every export you load, as a snapshot with the usernames and timestamps from the files,
  • the list calculated from them under Follows and the follower history in Trend, also per account,
  • your ignore list and the marks showing which accounts you have already handled while cleaning up,
  • your settings, such as whether you have seen the intro and whether and at what interval the app reminds you about a new export.

This data does not leave your device. I have no access to it. Whether your device includes the app data in its own backup, for example with iCloud or Google, depends on your device settings. Apple or Google are responsible for that.

Reminder and notifications

The reminder about a new export is a local notification that your device triggers itself. There is no push server. The app asks for notification permission on iPhone and Android. On Android the app may start briefly after the device restarts so that the scheduled reminder is kept. You can turn the reminder off in the app under More › Settings and withdraw the permission at any time in your device settings.

Backup

Under More › Data you can create a backup, a file ending in .follometry. It contains your exports, the ignore list and your settings. You create the file yourself and pass it on wherever you like, for example by AirDrop, email or to a cloud folder. Follometry does not upload it anywhere. You can protect the file with a password. Without a password, anyone who gets the file can open it.

Instagram and Meta

Follometry is an independent app and is not affiliated with Instagram or Meta Platforms. The app never accesses your Instagram account, never asks for your password and uses no Instagram interface. It only reads the file you downloaded with Instagram’s official export function. Instagram has to provide you with this data, as regulated by Art. 20 GDPR (right to data portability).

When you tap “Open in Instagram” in the app, the app opens that account’s profile in Instagram. What you do there, including unfollowing while cleaning up, you do yourself in Instagram. Instagram’s privacy policy (Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd.) applies to that.

Purchase

Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play) handle the purchase. I never see your payment details. Apple and Google provide me with sales reports. I use them only for my accounting and for questions about a purchase. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (contract), and for keeping accounting records Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR in conjunction with Section 147 of the German Fiscal Code (AO). Apple’s and Google’s own privacy policies apply to their processing: apple.com/legal/privacy and policies.google.com/privacy.

No analytics, no advertising

The app contains no third-party analytics, advertising or crash reporting tools and sets no cookies. If you allowed sharing analytics with app developers in your device settings, Apple provides me with aggregated crash and usage data. Google Play shows me similar aggregated data about the app’s stability. I cannot identify you from it. Apple and Google control this through your device settings, not the app.

Deletion

You delete individual exports in the app under More › Data › Your exports, and everything at once with “Delete all data”. When you uninstall the app, your device deletes all app data. A backup you created yourself stays wherever you saved it.

Children

Follometry is not aimed at children under 13.

This website (getfollometry.app)

Hosting and server log files

The website is hosted by ALL-INKL.COM – Neue Medien Münnich, Hauptstraße 68, 02742 Friedersdorf. With every request the server stores technically necessary data in log files: IP address, date and time, requested address, amount of data transferred, the page you came from, and browser and operating system. This is needed to deliver the website and protect it against attacks. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR. The host deletes the log files automatically after a short time. A data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR is in place with the host.

No cookies, no third-party services

The website sets no cookies for visitors and loads nothing from other servers: fonts, images and stylesheets come from this server. There is a cookie only in the protected admin area, which only I use.

Own visitor statistics

To see which pages people read, I count page views myself, without cookies and without third parties. I store the page, the language, the domain of the page you came from, device type and browser name, as well as clicks on the store buttons and sent contact forms. I do not store your IP address. So that I do not count a visitor twice on the same day, I build a checksum from the shortened IP address, the browser identifier and the date, which changes every day. It cannot be traced back to you. If your browser sends “Do Not Track” or “Global Privacy Control”, I do not count you. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR, my legitimate interest is improving the website. I delete the data after 14 months.

Contact form and email

If you write to me through the form or by email, I store your email address, your name (if given) and your message so that I can reply. For form messages I also store a checksum of the shortened IP address to prevent mass use of the form. Form messages are kept in the website database and sent to my mailbox by email, both with the same host. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR, for questions about a purchase Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR. I delete messages once your request is settled and no retention obligation applies.

Your rights

You have the right to access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing based on Art. 6 (1) (f) (Art. 21). Write to hello@getfollometry.app.

You can also complain to a data protection authority. The authority responsible for me is: Der Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz und die Informationsfreiheit Baden-Württemberg, Lautenschlagerstraße 20, 70173 Stuttgart, baden-wuerttemberg.datenschutz.de.

Changes

I update this policy when the app or the website changes. The version on this page applies. The date at the top shows the last update.

Follometry shows you who doesn’t follow you back on Instagram and who unfollowed you. Follometry is not associated with Instagram or Meta.
